Winding through Houston’s historic Hermann Park, this 1.95 mile-long multi-purpose trail follows the route of the original carriage paths lined by huge Live Oaks. Exceptional care was taken to preserve the trees in the siting and construction of the trail and adjacent light standards. The decomposed granite trail is served by concrete trails that cross beneath a park road where steeper grades make erosion an issue. A rustic wood and steel bridge spans a ravine near the golf course.
Lauren Griffith served as the prime consultant and landscape architect for the project completed in 2011. It was funded by a TXDOT State Transportation Enhancement Project with 20% matching funds from the Hermann Park Conservancy.
