Lauren Griffith Associates is leading the design effort with Walter P Moore’s civil engineers to renovate the most popular running trail in Houston. Memorial Park’s Seymour Lieberman Trail hosts up to 10,000 runners daily. The team is realigning the trail to create a 2.75-mile loop that will be demarcated at quarter-mile intervals. Pulling the trail away from Memorial Drive creates a safer condition and affords the opportunity to cross two scenic ravines on bridges winding through forest treetops. Pulling the trail in from East and West Memorial Loop allows the team to re-shape the existing ditch banks, plant shade trees on both sides of the trail and create bioswales for stormwater management in some areas. All proposed plantings will be native species.
Lauren Griffith Associates has worked with the Memorial Park Conservancy, Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Uptown TIRZ and facilitated a public meeting to reach consensus on the proposed trail alignment. Our team is also coordinating with the Memorial Park master planning team of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects.
