Weiss Park, home of The Houston Parks Board, features a two-acre native plant meadow irrigated by rainwater harvesting. Keep America Beautiful volunteers planted the meadow and six-hundred trees as part of the 2010 Great American Clean-up. Decomposed granite trails through the meadow and an adjacent woodland were built by high school volunteers during the summer.
Lauren Griffith Associates donated landscape architectural services for the project, developing the plant list and plan and supervising volunteers throughout the workday. The project is a model of sustainable planting for the Southeast Texas area. The firm also designed and developed construction documents for the trails which were completed in 2010.
